SDG Week 10 : Measurements, Indices, and Indicators for Sustainable Development and SDG
Assalamualaikum, this week 10, my lecturer taught us via online slide about measurements, indices, and indicators for Sustainable Development and the SDGs , Prof. Dr. Suhaimi also conducted a online quiz through Google Form which is included from Week 1 until Week 9. Here is my reflection:
Based on the learning about this topic, it made me aware that sustainability is should be measured to be a important data or statistic for our future generations. Before this, I viewed sustainable development merely in terms of value, but this topic showed me how progress can only be evaluated like the index is a method that we used to measure or indicate various reliable data, including government performance, such as the Malaysian Shariah Index, which assesses government adherence to Maqasid Shariah principle
Not only that, Sustainable Indicators are quantitative tools that analyze and measure progress towards the sustainable use of resources, this from the 1992 Rio Earth Summit. There are categories of indicators which are classified into four types based on their function such as Context, Input, Process, and Impact, this can describe the environment, resources used, organizational approaches, and results of action.
There are category environmental indicators, which evaluate the condition of the environment and natural resources. For instance, air quality indexes, greenhouse gas emissions, and water quality.Secondly, economic indicators, which evaluate the sustainability of economic operations and resource utilisation like GDP per capita. Thirdly, social indicators, which emphasise social well-being, equity, and inclusion. Fourthly, institutional indicators, which examine the impact of governance and policy frameworks on the advancement of sustainability like the governance frameworks.
