SDG Week 3 : Maqasid Shariah

Assalamualaikum, today on week 3, Prof. Dr. Suhaimi taught us via online about Maqasid Shariah, I also went to the IIUM Gallery at the Rectory of the MAF building to do a research about Maqasid Shariah and Sustainable Development. Maqasid al-Shariah targets to achieve human well-being (maslahah) and to prevent harm (mafsadah). Here is my reflection:

Based on my observation, the designs showed sustainability using eco-friendly materials with energy-efficient features, integrating with SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. The exhibition also served as an interested tool, encouraging awareness about sustainable development and aligning with SDG 4: Quality Education, inspiring future generations to apply sustainable practices. Then, Maqasid Shariah protects both people and nature, not just economic growth. Preservation and promotion of life is comprehensive covering the five fundamental foundations of Maqasid al-Shariah which are Hifz al-Din, Hifz al-Nafs, Hifz al-‘Aql, Hifz al-Nasl, Hifz al-Mal

Furthermore, Prof, Dr. Suhaimi highlighted in our class a crucial emphasis of spirituality as the foundation of sustainability, also ruhiyyah means engaging responsibly with economic, social, and environment to seek the pleasure of Allah. This can strengthen the connection between people and nature with humility and avoiding corruption. Islam ensures the balance of social, economic, and environmental development making sustainability achievable and lasting.

In conclusion, I personally believed that Maqasid al-Shariah is a sacred guidance to the system of life, sustainability will become a moral and religious duty. The protection of five fundamentals will lead us to the prosperity in seeking
the pleasure of Allah in life.
