SDG Week 5 : Sejahtera as a Local of Sustainable Development

Assalamualaikum, today on week 5, Prof. Dr. Suhaimi gave his student a recorded lecture via online platform. My lecturer highlighted about Sejahtera as a Local of Sustainable Development. Not only that, i took initiative to go to Dar al-Hikmah Library of IIUM for seeking information about Sejahtera from several books and references related to the Sejahtera concept for sustainable development. I wrote some lessons about the Sejahtera concept for sustainable development from some reference. In this library, there is a section which is included ISRA and IFBIM, this section aim to educate and integrate the Islamic perspective with the modern knowledge among the students especially in IIUM. Here is my reflection :

Based on my reading, I found two books related to the Sejahtera concept, from which we can conclude the lesson learned. The first book is 'Takaful Realities and Challenges' by Professor Datuk Dr Syed Othman Alhabshi. In Takaful Realities and Challenges Professor Datuk Dr Syed Othman Alhabshi shares some important lessons. Firstly, Takaful helps individuals and families from poverty due to unexpected accident with provide financial support such as dead, this aligning in SDG 1 No Poverty. Then, Takaful also operates on the principles of taสฟฤwun, amanah,สฟadl and tabarruสฟ. This concept teaches us that all aspects of society are encouraging sustainable practices that benefit everyone.

Futhermore, the next book is ''Islamic Economics Principle Analysis" by Dr. Mohamed Fairooz Abdul Khir. ''Islamic Economics Principle Analysis" by Dr. Mohamed Fairooz Abdul Khir is a  book that discusses the comprehensive approach to education and personal development. This book emphasizes encouraging wealth circulation through Islamic instruments such as zakat, waqf, and takaful to protect individuals or families. This concept shows the difference of conventional with Islamic  systems that prioritize  a balance between development and moral values, aligning economic growth with spiritual well-being, and sustainability.

To sum up, I personally agreed that Sejahtera is encompassed in all aspects of our life, the importance of fostering values and virtues alongside academic knowledge. These books have many benefits that integrating Islamic element with sustainable development like Takaful and Islamic economic.
