SDG Week 9 : Field Works - On Campus Observation IIUM as Sustainable Campus : Student as Agent of Change

Assalamualaikum, today on Week 9, Prof. Dr. Suhaimi have a online class with his student through Zoom. Prof. Dr. Suhami explained on his student about Campus Observation IIUM as Sustainable Campus . My lecturer highlighted his student to be a responsible and apply sustainable practices in daily life. Due to that, I must to take  meaningful photos related to our observations on campus to promote sustainability. After our observation, I wrote three lessons based on our chosen location that I visited. Here is my reflection :

According to several pictures reflect a meaningful lesson for our society. IIUM Mahabbah Food is one of initiatives to attain the sustainability. This aims to end hunger, especially among the student in IIUM. This can help the students who faced hardships in their student life. It recognizes that hunger is not only about the lack of food, but also about nutritious food. Referring to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2: Zero Hunger, raising awareness about the importance of nutritious in our daily lives is crucial, also integrates with Maqasid Shariah (Hifẓ al-Nafs. Islam encourages fair distribution of food, emphasizes social responsibility toward the poor. This can also reflect on the struggles faced by countries like the parts of Africa, where access to clean environment is limited.

Then, there is scenario reminds us of the importance of cleaning environment. I also observe some  dirty place in IIUM such as garbage everywhere, many places are not managed well. This integrating to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11 : Sustainable Cities and Communities . This SDG focuses on safe, clean, and sustainable environments. One of the main cause is from the lack of awareness among the students that litter rubbish in everywhere at some places.

As a reminder from the Quran, Surah Al-Baqarah (222) states:

"Indeed, Allah loves those who are constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves,"

In short, these pictures remind us that sustainable development  with individual awareness and collective responsibility. These SDG Goals are essential in ensuring students’ well-being and dignity. By practicing responsible food consumption, avoiding waste, and caring for our surroundings especially  IIUM, also this verse emphasizes that Allah loves those who repent and those who purify themselves, highlighting cleanliness and spiritual purity. As Muslims and humans, we are entrusted to use resources sustainably to ensure long-term benefits and maintain a good quality of life.
